Finished up the ruffs after sleeping for 12 hours due to being sick. I’ve been working on this animation test FOREVER because I’m so friggin’ slow. I’m debating if I should finalize it and do cleanup + paint or move on. We’ll see!

3 States of Doggo: WIP 2
3 States of Doggo: WIP 1
Work-in-progress of a little animation loop I’m doodling. My dog in his 3 states of napping: liquid, solid, gas.
Cycling in the PNW: WIP
Far from being done, but figured I’d post a WIP. Definitely enjoying the process even though I’m taking forever.
Sketchblog!
I decided to start a Tumblr page for posting my quick sketches and drawings. It’s meant for practice and personal improvement so I’d like to keep it separate from my portfolio. Check it out at your own peril. 😉
*koff koff* Run/Vault wip: Blocking *koff*
I was planning to work intently on this, this past President’s Day weekend, but I caught a pretty bad coughing bug. Since I can’t seem to sleep due to my coughing, I decided to post this really quick.
I based this off of the sketches I drew a little ways ago, along with some reference for the ‘kong vault’ I’ve found on Youtube. I’m still not sold on the first section of the blocking; his poses don’t look so strong for doing that preemptive hop before leaping. Also, does the overall animation look too slow?
Once I recover, I hope to get back to animating and give this the attention it deserves.
Run WIP: Planning
I’ve started planning for my next animation! Keeping with the parkour theme, I want to try doing a run with vaults/jumps over objects. I love their poses as they jump over things, so I want to experiment with that. Something a little shorter, but just as focused. Since things have been busy at work, I’m not quite sure how much time I can dedicate to this, but we’ll see.
Physical WIP: Refining
Here’s the finished product. Of course, there’s always room for improvement. 😉 I widened the gap to make the landing a little more believable, made adjustments to the jump pose, and tried to make the poses a little punchier, but looking at it now it’s not so noticeable. That’s one thing that always bothers me when it comes to smoothing out animation; I tend to lose my poses. If anyone has any advice to preserving poses while smoothing, let me know.
Physical WIP: Splining Pt. 2
Physical WIP: Splining Pt. 1
This is the first half of the animation, splined out. The jump at the end is definitely not refined yet, but any crits on the running + stumble + running again are greatly appreciated. I changed the footing upon falling, making the stumble a little slower, and tried to accent the acceleration from stumble to running as per your crits. I think I might’ve made things a little too slow on some spots, though; please let me know what you think.
I definitely hit a lot of rough patches with this stumble. Smoothing out the movements from blocking to spline took me a lot longer than expected (probably because it involves more body movement than my previous exercise). Also, smoothing out the switch between FK and IK was also time consuming.
Onto the second half of the animation! 😀
