#Inktober Days 1-6: It’s that time of year, Inktober! I had an unusual challenge for the beginning of this month: I would be on vacation/traveling during the first 6 days of Inktober. Similar to exercising while on vacation, it was a challenge for me to keep up drawing daily. However, going to a new locale is inspiring in itself, and I never ran out of subjects to draw. Key West is a nice change of pace from Seattle. Now that I’m back from my cross-country trip, here are the drawings for October 1-6!

Inktober 2014: Day 31

#inktober Day 31 (Last Day!): My middle sister owns a very sociable cat named Kali. This is what happens when Kali takes a selfie. Special thanks to Karl for helping me come up with the caption and username.
This marks the end of Inktober for me. This has been a great learning experience for me not only in terms of time management, materials, and technique, but also in ways of sharing my work. I was initially hesitant to post these sketches to social media in fear of spamming my friends and family, but I’m glad I didn’t. It was informative to see which drawings you found appealing and responded to. Thanks for following along, and I’ll be sure to continue drawing and sharing them with you! Happy Halloween! 🙂

Inktober 2014: Day 29

#Inktober Day 29: My youngest sister, Lauren, is a marine biologist currently working in Costa Rica with the sea turtle preservation efforts there. She was describing how one night there were these phosphorescent plankton(?) in the water that illuminated her and the sea turtle next to her. Inking got too heavy handed…oh well.

Inktober 2014: Day 27

#Inktober Day 27: This is a quote referenced in Austin Kleon’s book, “Show Your Work” that remained with me after finishing the book. It’s a great reminder that everything doesn’t have to be right or good on the first try. When you have your “bad work” days, find solace in the fact that you chose to make something instead of nothing.

Inktober 2014: Day 25

#Inktober Day 25: There was quite a storm that whisked through the Seattle area tonight with 50 mph winds. A lot of places lost power, including ours. We were fortunate that it wasn’t for long, but I know some are still without. Hang in there!

Inktober 2014: Day 23

#Inktober Day 23: Contour drawing study of a treehouse I saw from Treehouses of the World. It’s always fun doing contour drawings because there’s no erasing or take-backsies. It forces you to be present and mindful of your strokes.
