Subaru 360 Commission

Forgot to post this commission I did back in December for a friend. It was a request of a Subaru 360 for a commemoration party. It wasn’t ultimately used for the event, but it was an interesting challenge considering I don’t draw vehicles enough. I spent some time the month prior trying to understand its form before I hopped to it. It’s still rough, but it was fun to draw.

Inktober 2016: Day 14

#Inktober2016 Day 14: When I was 17, I remember coming home from my part-time job and saw a strange car parked in front of my parents’ house: a 1996 Corolla DX. Upon asking whose car that was, my parents gave me the key. 15 years and 225, 000+ miles later, this car has paid for itself many times over. My Corolla carried not only my underclassmen friends in high school, but a hitch hiker. It’s made a pit stop for shady beef jerky in a Foodtown parking lot in Jersey. It followed me all the way to Savannah, GA where I went to art school. We made trips to the beach, to the Oglethorpe Mall, and of course, Monty, the computer art academic building. My car came with me when I landed my first job in the game industry in North Carolina, then my next job in Maryland, and even followed me across the country to my current state of residence. It has driven 10 hours in a snow storm as I tried to visit my husband, then fiance, during our long distance relationship. It has nail polish glitter on the dash where my sister tried painting her nails (and my bobble-head Stitch figurine) while I was driving. It has carried belongings, friends, family, dogs, and flowers. It has seen plenty of repairs later on in its life to the point that the mechanics know me on a first name basis. “Corollas are just good cars. They last forever,” everyone tells me.

My Corolla was a good car. Thank you, Corolla (you always were unnamed), thank you for the ride.
